Things are tense at Liverpool after a difficult week with a goalless draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby and a 4-1 defeat at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium at the start of the Champions League group stage against Napoli, which hit the team's pride with the Colombian Luis Diaz as the most outstanding player.

And much of the pressure is on the Reds' coach Jurgen Klopp, whose continuity in the Anfield dugout is already in doubt. In this regard, the German had a surprising answer at a press conference on whether or not he will continue at the helm of the team, something that fans surely did not expect.

Liverpool's curious reaction after Queen Elizabeth's death

"I don't think so, the owners are convinced that I can solve this and that's what we are working for," was Klopp's response to the question about what he thought about the departure of his compatriot Thomas Tuchel from Chelsea after a string of bad results and the arrival of Graham Potter.

So far this 2022-2023 season the Reds have played eight games with three wins, one in the community shield over Manchester City. Also the nine-nil thrashing of Bournemouth and the tight win over Newcastle at Anfield. But last Wednesday they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Napoli, which put the spotlight on them.

Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League table with nine points, a far cry from leaders Arsenal, who are 15 points clear at the top of the table.  With the suspension of the matchday due to the death of Queen Elizabeth, Liverpool will be back in action on Sunday 18 September in a very difficult game at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

What's the next game?

However, before that match in London, they will have to prepare for the second round of the Champions League group stage on Tuesday at Anfield, where they will welcome Ayax of the Netherlands, with the urgency of winning to avoid complicating their qualification to the round of 16 of the best club tournament in the world. But their opponents will not be easy because they have just beaten Rangers in Glasgow.
