Todd Boehly, owner of Premier League club Chelsea, has sparked controversy with his latest comments on English football. The American businessman suggested that the Premier League should have its own All-Star Game between northern and southern teams so that the league could have more capital inflows.
"I hope the Premier League learns a little bit from American sports and really starts to figure out why there isn't an All-Star Game or why we wouldn't have a tournament with the bottom four teams in the standings. People talk about more money for the pyramid. MLB did their All-Star Game this year and they made $200 million between a Monday and Tuesday. You could do a North vs. South All-Star Game to fund the pyramid more easily," Boehly said recently.

Jürgen Klopp is part of a problem in European football
However, the idea does not seem to be to the liking of many Premier League figures. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was asked about it and, true to his style, responded bluntly. "Excellent. When you find a date for that, you can give me a call? Do you want to bring in the Harlem Globetrotters as well and let them play against a football team?" said the German boss, who made it clear that he had no support for such an initiative.
"I'm surprised by the question, so please don't judge my answers too much, but maybe you can explain it to me at some point and find a suitable date. I'm not sure people want to see that. Imagine this, Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle all in a team that isn't the national team, just a northern team. An interesting game. All the London boys together. Arsenal, Tottenham. Brilliant. Did he really say that? Interesting," said the German coach.
Incredibly, this led even Spanish coach Pep Guardiola to agree with Klopp. Both coaches have a fierce rivalry on the pitch to prove which team is better, Liverpool or Manchester City, but it seems that for this kind of situation they have no problem to coincide. "I have no opinion. I agree with Jürgen (Klopp), let them give me the dates when it will be played," said the Citizens boss.
