Mohamed Salah’s incredible 2024/25 continued on Saturday as he scored both goals in Liverpool’s 2-0 win away at AFC Bournemouth. The Egyptian now has 25 goals and 17 assists from 33 appearances in all competitions so far this season, while he is also leading the way for both the Premier League Golden Boot and Playmaker award.
However, that has not stopped the uncertainty regarding his future, with the 32-year-old still out of contract at the end of the season.
The forward has admitted more than once that he wants to stay at Anfield, while Arne Slot reiterated last week that he wants to retain Salah’s services.
But the Egyptian has also admitted more than once that as things stand, he is treating the current campaign as his final season with Liverpool.
Yet with every match-winning performance, Salah is piling more and more pressure on the Reds to agree terms on a contract extension.
And Troy Deeney believes ‘it is stupid’ that there is even a discussion about the in-form Liverpool forward leaving the club after naming the Egyptian in his BBC Sport Team of the Week.
"The reason for Liverpool winning the game,” he said after the Reds’ win over Bournemouth. “Salah's penalty and then an unbelievable finish.
“The second goal, you know he was going to go with that left foot but you just can't stop it. It was real quality.
“It was one of those moments where you realise it is stupid we are even having a conversation about him potentially leaving the club. He was excellent.”
