Real Madrid have set their sights on Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold as a potential summer transfer target, with the Spanish giants eager to bolster their right-back options. The England international has been linked with a move away from Anfield for some time, and his contract situation at the club has further fueled speculation.
Alexander-Arnold has made it clear to Liverpool that he would be open to a move to the Bernabéu, but only if certain conditions are met. The right-back is seeking a significant pay rise, as well as assurances over his future as club captain. Should Virgil van Dijk depart from Merseyside, Alexander-Arnold is keen to take over the armband.
In a bid to fend off interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool have tabled a lucrative contract offer to Alexander-Arnold worth €93 million over five years. This would make the 24-year-old one of the highest-paid defenders in the world. Liverpool manager Arne Slot is keen to keep hold of Alexander-Arnold, who has been an integral part of the team's success in recent years.
The Merseyside club will be aware that Real Madrid have the financial muscle to meet Alexander-Arnold's demands, and they may need to offer even more to convince him to stay. However, with the player entering the final years of his contract, Liverpool risk losing him on a free transfer in 2025 if they cannot agree on a new deal.
