“Oh, are we in crisis now?”
With a wry smile, Virgil van Dijk responded to speculation about Liverpool’s recent performances in the Premier League following their draw with Nottingham Forest. “This only confirms how tough the Premier League is, where you play against very good opponents,” the Dutch defender explained.
The draw against Forest and challenges faced in matches like the one against Manchester United were always going to be difficult for the Reds. Still, Van Dijk stressed the importance of adapting and finding ways to secure wins in such games: “We should have won, we could have won, but the reality is we came away with a point in a tough ground on a difficult night”.
Praise for Forest’s approach
Van Dijk also acknowledged Forest’s strong form, highlighting their defensive organisation and counter-attacking threat. “In recent matches, they’ve been very consistent in the way they defend—very compact. They’ve got players who can hurt you on the break and have kept clean sheets, which is key,” he said.
He went on to praise the atmosphere created by Forest’s supporters and the team’s solid performance: “They create a fantastic atmosphere, and still, we managed to do very well in the second half”.
Looking ahead
Finally, Van Dijk remained optimistic, reminding everyone that there is still a long way to go this season. “They (Forest) aren’t playing in Europe, which gives them a bit more rest, but it’s all about focusing on the next game,” concluded the Liverpool captain, expressing confidence that the team can improve and continue competing for the title until the very end.
