It is no news that many young England midfielders who now have established careers in European football have had Anfield legend Steven Gerrard as their main source of inspiration during their progress through the youth ranks, with very few players having the opportunity to face and learn something from their idol, with Everton being one of the few cases where this was the case.

At Everton's Goodison Park, midfielder Jack Harrison had the opportunity to score the goal that put his team ahead over Manchester City, being shared by the official Premier League account, being used later by Anything Liverpool who published an image showing the Toffees player holding a Steven Gerrard shirt.

The image that was shared is one where Jack is holding Gerrard's jersey when he played in MLS for LA Galaxy, and it is worth noting that despite having been formed in England within the academies of Manchester United, Harrison had his first big opportunity to play in the United States league for the year 2016, being able to match right with St. James' Park.

Although Jack Harrison was idolised by Gerrard, the Reds never considered him as a possible midfield reinforcement, and so after his two seasons with New York City, Jack packed his bags back to England, finding a place in the second division where he spent a year with Middlesbrough FC, He then moved on to Leeds United where he spent two more years in the English Football League Championship before gaining promotion in 2020, continuing in the top flight for a couple more years with the Peacocks until his arrival this season with Everton.

Jack won't be able to emulate his midfield idol

Although the Everton player has been steadily improving, it is true that his style of play and level of play will not earn him the chance to be considered by a Liverpool side that has Dominik Szoboszlai as the successor to Steven Gerrard, and Jack will have to settle for sharing the pitch with his idol even if he is in the final stages of his career and the game is in MLS rather than the Premier League.
