Liverpool's interest in Piero Hincapie is not new, but it seems to be growing according to the Mirror. For the match between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, which ended in a 3-0 win for the Ecuadorian's team, the Reds sent scouts for coach Xabi Alonso, but also for two players.

According to the media, Hincapié was one of them and they are also interested in striker Florian Wirtz. The Ecuadorian centre-back had a great game in that win, which allowed Bayer to move five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
The player's agent, Manuel Sierra, had already said last month that Liverpool were interested in the Ecuadorian. He said that it is not only the Reds who are interested in him, as he has also attracted interest from other teams.
Liverpool do not currently have a left-sided centre-back like Hincapié in their squad and are also looking to prepare for when Virgil van Dijk leaves the club or football in the future.
During the January winter transfer window there were rumours of a possible departure, as Hincapié had been somewhat sidelined in the previous months after returning from injury. However, he made good use of his minutes until he returned to the starting line-up and raised his level to remain one of the stars.

The Ecuadorian is now focused on Leverkusen, who have so far enjoyed an incredible 31-match unbeaten run. Xabi Alonso is a candidate to replace Jürgen Klopp, who announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season, and if he finally arrives at the club he could do so alongside some of his players.
