Liverpool's Interest in Patrick Dorgu to Replace Robertson

It’s no secret that Liverpool are looking to sign a left-back in the near future. Robertson isn’t getting any younger, and it makes sense to replace him given his recent struggles in the team. The left side of defence has almost been Liverpool’s Achilles’ heel under Arne Slot’s management, and fixing that will be a priority for Richard Hughes and his recruitment team.

As reported by Italian media, Liverpool is reportedly "preparing" a €40 million offer for Patrick Dorgu, a player the club greatly admires.

Who is Patrick Dorgu?

Dorgu is a Danish international born in Copenhagen, and he hails from the renowned FC Nordsjælland academy. He has been playing for Italian side Lecce since 2022 and has already made over 50 Serie A appearances despite being just 20 years old.

A relatively tall player at 1.87 meters, Dorgu is left-footed and quite versatile. His primary position throughout his career so far has been left-back, but he has also played further up the pitch as a right-winger and left-winger.

Why is Liverpool desperate to sign him?

The club’s current situation regarding the left-back position is desperate. Similarly to their right-wing situation, where Mohamed Salah has yet to sign a contract extension, the need for a solid left-back is critical.

Interestingly, Dorgu would add depth in both positions. He has played 10 matches as a right-winger for Lecce in Serie A this season, scoring three goals in those appearances. As a left-footer and someone who is very dynamic, he fits the profile of what Liverpool would want on the right-wing, far more than Harvey Elliott or even Federico Chiesa.
