Virgil van Dijk may have a Brazilian teammate at Liverpool

Liverpool are keeping tabs on one of Brazilian football's most promising young prospects. Santos FC defender Jair Cunha has been the subject of intense speculation in recent days, with the Anfield club being tipped as the main interested party in signing the young defender.

Revealed in the Peixe youth ranks, Jair stood out in Santos' campaign in Serie B of the 2024 Brazilian Championship, being one of the pillars of the team that won access to the elite of national football. His defensive solidity, good aerial play and attacking projection caught the eye of several European clubs, including Liverpool.

Slot's interest in Jair

The Reds' interest is said to have been prompted by an express request from coach Arne Slot, who is looking to strengthen the team's defence. The English press claim that the Dutch coach sees in Jair a player with great potential to adapt to Liverpool's style of play and become one of Europe's leading defenders in the coming seasons.

Brazilian Star

Jair's call-up to the Brazil Under-20 squad has also further increased his market value. The young defender has already shown himself at ease in the Canarinho shirt and has been one of the team's highlights in international competitions.

Negotiation, however, will not be easy. Santos own Jair's federative rights and have already made it clear that they will not release the player for below market value. What's more, other big European clubs are also looking to sign him.
