Liverpool will face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-finals in a game that will be complex and in which the Colombian Luis Díaz would have his place in the starting line-up assured. Before the match, Arne Slot spoke to the press and highlighted Lucho's work, comparing him to what Mohamed Salah has done.
Salah is unquestionably Liverpool's best player this season. His enormous number of goals and assists support this statement, although for Arne Slot it is very important that the entire attacking front is in a good streak of offensive participations.
Both Cody Gakpo and Luis Díaz have been fundamental pieces in the Reds during the season. The Colombian managed to adapt to a different role, that of '9' without giving a fixed reference, while the Dutchman contributed everything that was expected of him after seeing his performances in the National Team.
Lucho has scored 8 goals in the Premier League, a figure that already equals what he did in the previous season, and he still has another 18 games ahead of him to surpass the record. Although Salah is well ahead in this area, the Dutchman Slot said that he is satisfied with the combined work of Díaz and Gakpo, who are trying to match the pace of the Pharaoh.
"I have already said several times that I fully understand how much they focus on Salah's performance because it is impressive that a player scores so many goals and so many assists. But if you combine the goals of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo when they play as a left winger, they are quite close to the numbers that Salah has," said the coach.
On the other hand, Slot made it clear that the Egyptian has an advantage, which is that Federico Chiesa is not yet 100% fit to be part of the team.
"Mo's advantage is that, since Federico Chiesa is not always available, he plays from the first to the last minute, but I think our left-wing position is quite close to the numbers that Salah has. That probably also tells you that part of the success lies, without a doubt, in the quality of the players, but also in the style of play that we have," Slot concluded.
Luis Díaz is coming off scoring a double against Tottenham at their stadium weeks ago and will look to replicate this great performance on Wednesday, January 8, when Liverpool visits Spurs in a stop that will aim to reach the Carabao Cup final.
