Liverpool knows it must bounce back to winning ways against struggling Burnley this weekend. The Reds saw the lead at the top of the Premier League cut to just two points after the defeat to Arsenal on Sunday. Manchester City then went second by beating Brentford. Another win for Pep Guardiola's men over Everton on Saturday lunchtime will see Liverpool knocked off top spot for the first time in 2024, albeit with the chance to immediately respond.

It appears there will be a thrilling title race on the cards in the second half of the season as Jürgen Klopp bids to end his tenure with a second Premier League trophy. His departure hasn't stopped speculation though about potential summer additions, even if it seems likely that Liverpool will first want to get a new manager and sporting director in place.

Liverpool is reportedly monitoring the future of Federico Chiesa after negotiations over a new deal with Juventus stalled. The 26-year-old, who has been linked with Chelsea in the past, has a contract that runs until the end of next season. But the player and Juventus have so far failed to agree on a salary, and that means the Italian giants may have to consider selling Chiesa this summer.

HITC reports that Liverpool is keeping tabs on the situation, along with PSG and Bayern Munich, with Chiesa valued at around $54m. The Italy international predominantly plays from the right of the attack. He could be the perfect long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, with Saudi clubs again expected to move for the Liverpool star at the end of the season.

A future possibility

Another winger linked with a move to Anfield this summer is Johan Bakayoko, who has caught the eye with his displays for Dutch giants PSV. The 20-year-old has scored six times and provided 13 assists this season. PSG, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are all interested in the Belgian and Voetballkrant reports that Liverpool is also keen. It is stated though that the Reds are yet to make a 'concrete proposal' to sign the player. Bakayoko is likely to cost $43m and PSV will be reluctant to lose him this summer. However, there appears to be an acceptance that his long-term future likely lies with one of the heavyweight clubs in Europe.
