With the news that Jürgen Klopp is due to leave Liverpool this summer after nearly nine successful years at the club, it’s perhaps the only time where Reds fans aren’t openly thinking about the transfer market. Klopp announced this week that he was stepping away from Anfield due to fatigue from the job, and so the club will begin the process of recruiting a new manager ahead of next season. They will be massive boots to fill, but with Klopp’s decision being made public now in January, it gives Liverpool time to highlight a proper successor.
The two signings that will not arrive after Klopp's departure
All of the talk surrounding Klopp’s departure has meant that transfer rumor, that football behemoth that nowadays overshadows everything, has taken a backseat for the past 24 hours. It really is that seismic a change. The transfer window is indeed open, but there is the feeling that clubs won’t do any big business between now and the end of the window on February 1. Moreover, it’s almost certain that Liverpool won’t dip into the market.
Ramsay’s time at Liverpool has been marred from the moment he arrived. Signed from Aberdeen but immediately found to be injured, Ramsay has only played twice in the red of Liverpool. He went out on loan to Preston to get more playing time but in the end, he was recalled by Liverpool due to a lack of playing time. Now, Phil Hay of The Athletic believes Leeds is on the hunt for Ramsay a second time after the player rejected Leeds for Liverpool in 2022. And Klopp could sanction another loan for the right-back. “You’ll have seen Calvin Ramsay linked at Liverpool,” said the journalist.
"He’s been on Leeds’ radar for a long time, actually going back to the previous regime. He was one of the players that [Victor] Orta scouted when he was at Aberdeen. Leeds were pretty close to getting him actually. "He would have been an academy signing I think more than anything, an under-21s signing initially, but he was certainly on that borderline of pushing through. Leeds know about Ramsay inside out. He was at Preston but didn’t get much in the way of games at Preston so was recalled."
Welcome back, Xabi Alonso accepts his dream is to be at Anfield
The Genk midfielder is making waves with his performances for the Belgian side this season, and Liverpool reportedly face competition from Manchester United for the player’s services. That’s according to Football Transfers, who state that the club, due to minority owners INEOS, wants to revamp their transfer strategy by focusing on promising young talents rather than seasoned players. With that in mind, £26m rated El Khannouss has now made it onto the club’s list. El-Khannouss is a central midfielder who can also play as an attacking midfielder. He’s scored three times and provided three assists for Genk in 20 league games this season, with Atlético Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen also watching him.
