2023 was a difficult year for Liverpool, where although they finished top of the Premier League, the team had a dismal last season, making it one of the worst seasons in the Jürgen Klopp era at the helm of Liverpool. On top of that, injuries have left the team very limited, both last season and this season.

Thiago Alcántara's injury has taken the longest, with his main injury coming at the start of 2023, in April, when the Reds faced West Ham at London's Olympic Stadium, where Thiago came on in the 59th minute for Jordan Henderson. Never to appear in a Reds line-up again.

With Alcántara having been sidelined for almost nine months, this absence has been the most sensitive for the Reds according to former Brazilian Reds star Fabinho, who was present at Anfield for the game against Newcastle. Stating that:

"Unfortunately, Thiago is not playing regularly, but I'm sure with his experience he is also helping these [new] players; he talks a lot, he has very good communication."

Being great reasons to miss the Spanish midfielder, who during the games he has played has made it clear that he is a player who gives a lot of balance to the team, having a great vision, besides being a player with great technique and dribbling giving great output to the team. So no doubt the Alcantara will be missed on Merseyside, and he is one of the most sensitive losses in Liverpool without any doubt.

Thiago's expected return at Anfield

Alcantara's current situation could change by the end of January, when he could return to play for the Reds, as his hip injury, although thought to be over, relapses have delayed the return of Thiago, who is undoubtedly eagerly awaited on Merseyside. The midfielder could make his long-awaited return as early as this month, so he could feature again at any time.
