Amid rumours of negotiations between Liverpool and Real Madrid for the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold, manager Arne Slot has spoken out and confirmed that he will continue to use the right-back in the next few games regardless of what is decided about his future with his contract six months away from expiring.

Trent was the main topic at the press conference on Friday. According to The Times, the Merengue team sent an initial official offer to Liverpool and is going all out to take the player in the remainder of the winter transfer market.

The idea of this move is to strengthen the defensive zone and get a replacement for Dani Carvajal, who was seriously injured and will not play until next season.

Real Madrid knows that Alexander-Arnold has not renewed and that is why they knocked on the door to take him. The problem is that Liverpool refuses to let go of one of its stars at this point in the campaign, where they are leaders of the Premier League and are practically qualified for the next phase of the Champions League.

Slot revealed that he has had conversations with Alexander-Arnold, but preferred not to go into details to avoid speculation.

The English defender is among Liverpool's priorities to renew his contract, however, the appearance of Real Madrid as interested has left in doubt that he will sign for continuity at Anfield.

"That happens a lot to our players, so if that destabilizes them then we would really have had a problem not only now but in the last six months because there were some conversations about our players in the last six months. I don't think it has destabilized them at all," insisted the coach.

When asked directly about Real Madrid's offer and if he could rule out Alexander-Arnold's departure, he said: "I can tell you that he will play on Sunday and I hope that he offers the same performances as during the last half year because everyone saw how good he was in the first half of the season, how much he is committed and how much he wants to win here."

According to Slot, his player's attitude has not changed at any time. "I see him on the training ground every day working hard. He is fully committed to us and will play on Sunday, if they don't tell me he is ill, but I don't expect them to do so," he added.

Under the orders of the Dutch coach, Alexander-Arnold recovered his best level and the confidence that he had lost at times in the last part of Jürgen Klopp's cycle.

"There is always room for improvement for each player. I think Trent can still improve. I have already seen a little improvement this season. These players are the best in the world, so there is not much room for improvement, but there is always a little," he said.

Slot believes that Alexander-Arnold has improved in the defensive aspect. "He has taken a step forward this season. I think that in some games he was outstanding in each part of the game. But sometimes there have also been a few ups and downs," he said.

Liverpool plays this Sunday against Manchester United in another edition of the English classic.
