Luis Díaz and His Goal Drought in 2025: Can He Break the Curse?

Luis Díaz is enduring a tough start to 2025 with Liverpool. Although he started in the recent 4-1 win over Ipswich Town, the Colombian delivered a quiet performance, going unnoticed for most of the game. Once again, Díaz was deployed as a centre-forward, a position that seems to limit his ability to showcase his full potential.

A Goal-less Start to the Year

The Colombian winger failed to register assists, create clear chances, or even take a shot on target against Ipswich. This performance extended his goal drought to six consecutive matches with the Reds. His last goal came on December 29, 2024, in a 5-0 victory over West Ham, where he opened the scoring with a right-footed strike inside the box.

Despite this slump, Díaz has had a decent season overall, tallying eight goals across all competitions. This leaves him close to surpassing his personal best goal record with Liverpool, and he still has 14 Premier League matches left to break it.

Minutes Played and Upcoming Challenges

So far in 2025, Díaz has logged 286 minutes in the Premier League, starting all four games against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, and Ipswich Town. He also failed to score in the League Cup against Tottenham and the UEFA Champions League clash with Lille.

The upcoming Premier League match against Bournemouth could provide the perfect opportunity for Díaz to end his goal drought. Midweek, he’ll also have another chance in the UEFA Champions League against PSV.

With his undeniable commitment and quality, Reds fans are hopeful that the Colombian will soon rediscover his best form and once again become a decisive figure in Liverpool’s attack.
