Liverpool Could Target Milos Kerkez as Potential Andy Robertson Replacement
A potential replacement for Robertson
Liverpool has set its sights on Milos Kerkez, the left-back from Bournemouth, as a potential replacement for Andy Robertson. The 20-year-old Hungarian has impressed since joining the Cherries from AZ Alkmaar in June 2023, and he is now one of several left-backs under consideration by Liverpool as they look to strengthen their squad for the future.
Robertson under pressure
Robertson, the 30-year-old Scotland international, has been a mainstay in Liverpool’s defence since his move from Hull City in 2017. However, the last 18 months have been difficult for the left-back, who has faced increasing competition from Kostas Tsimikas for the starting role. With just two years remaining on his current contract, speculation is growing that Robertson could be relegated to a backup position next season.
Kerkez a potential signing
According to The Times, Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, has been evaluating left-back options who could be available for transfer this summer, with Kerkez reportedly among those being considered. The report claims that Liverpool is determined to beat rivals Manchester United and Manchester City to the Hungarian’s signature, having already made contact with his representatives regarding a possible move in 2025.
Kerkez enjoying a solid season
Kerkez has started in all 21 of Bournemouth's Premier League matches this season. However, his place could come under threat following Bournemouth's recent signing of left-back Julio Soler earlier this month.
Carragher calls for defensive reinforcements
Former Liverpool defender and 2005 Champions League winner Jamie Carragher has recently called on the club to sign a left-back if they are to challenge for the Premier League title this season. After Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United, Carragher expressed concerns about the team’s defensive vulnerabilities, saying: "The big worry for me now is that Liverpool is starting to concede goals and chances. I still think Liverpool is the best team in this league. They have more goals and attacking talent than Arsenal."
The need for a left-back
Carragher added: "If you're Arsenal watching that, what would give you a boost is that Liverpool didn’t win and you're seeing that Liverpool is conceding goals and chances. People say Arsenal need to sign a goalscorer, Liverpool need to sign a left-back in January. A left-back, Trent was poor today, Conor Bradley came in, and I think Andy Robertson, absolute legend, love him to bits, is just holding on, and Tsimikas isn’t at the level to replace him. If Liverpool could get a left-back in January, that would put them in a strong position to go on and win the league."
An uncertain future for Robertson
As the season progresses, Liverpool’s search for a left-back may become one of their key priorities to reinforce the squad and keep their title hopes alive in the Premier League.
