Liverpool beat Paris Saint Germain 1-0 in an incredible match on Wednesday in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 , in a duel in which the French team dominated throughout the match. In response to this, Jamie Carragher , a legend of the Reds, spoke about the match and highlighted, with strong praise, the great performance of his club's goalkeeper, Alisson Becker .

" This was one of the biggest robberies in the history of football . I can't believe what I'm seeing. PSG were incredible and ran over Liverpool," the former defender said on CBS Sports. It should be noted that the team led by Luis Enrique shot 27 times , and ten of those shots were direct at the goal. And on none of those occasions did they manage to break the tie. They were very close and had even managed to do so with a great goal by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at 19', which was disallowed for offside. Liverpool, on the other hand, shot only twice. One of them was on goal and ended in Harvey Elliott's goal.

And the big reason PSG kept a clean sheet was Alisson's remarkable night, with nine key saves and a game that Carragher called the best of the Brazilian's career at the Reds. " It was possibly the best performance of his career in a Liverpool shirt . If the team wins the Champions League, which they have a good chance of doing, that performance will be remembered for years to come," he added.

However, he was not the only one to recognise Alisson's great performance, as Thierry Henry also gave his opinion. "Putting the ball in the back of the net is important, but in this game you have to give a lot of credit to Alisson , because I think three shots from PSG should have been a goal," the Frenchman explained to the same media outlet.

Carragher's numbers at Liverpool

The defender joined the Reds in October 1996 and made his debut on 8 January the following year against Middlesbrough in the League Cup semi-final. From then on, he remained with Liverpool, playing 739 matches and retiring on 19 May 2013 in the 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers in a match corresponding to the 38th round of the Premier League .

It is worth noting that during his time at the club he won three League Cups, two FA Cups and two Community Shields at the local level, while at the international level he lifted the European Super Cup on two occasions and the European Cup and the Europa League, both on one occasion.

What's next for Liverpool?

After their dramatic victory over PSG, Arne Slot's team will host Southampton for the 28th round of the domestic tournament. It should be noted that Liverpool is leading the league with 67 points, while the Saints are at the bottom with nine points. In addition, on Tuesday, March 11, they will play at home in the rematch against the Parisians .
