Leipzig's cheap shot at Carvalho, the reason they terminated his loan spell

During the summer transfer window, one of the players most frequently linked with a possible permanent move away from Liverpool was Portuguese gem Fabio Carvalho, who had attracted interest from a number of clubs after his fine spell with Fulham in England's second tier last season. However, the Reds were unwilling to part with him on a permanent basis.

One of the teams most interested in Carvalho was RB Leipzig, who wanted to sign him at any cost and were looking to buy him. However, it is known that the 21-year-old Portuguese striker is part of Jürgen Klopp's future plans, so a loan deal without option to buy was negotiated and he finally went to Germany to play for Marco Rose's side.

However, Fabio Carvalho did not fare well in the Bundesliga, playing in only 15 games, playing just 360 minutes, in which he failed to score a single goal and did not even provide a single assist. Now, the Portugal U-21 international ended his loan with the German club who no longer wanted him in their squad and Leipzig's sporting director, Rouven Schroder, revealed the reason why they no longer wanted him.

“We said to ourselves: great talent, good age, has already gained his experience. Still, you only get to know a player as an end product when he’s there (...) Fabio has a great character. But he realised: ‘OK, there’s a competitor here, I have to do more!’. And we noticed that he didn’t want to face the competition”, he said about Carvalho’s loan spell at Leipzig.

Carvalho is already at Hull City

After his bad experience in the Bundesliga, Fabio Carvalho has now returned to England, where Liverpool's management have quickly found him another team so that he can play the rest of the season and get far more minutes than he had at Leipzig. The young Portuguese joined Championship side Hull City, where he will be on loan until the end of the campaign.
