Comparisons never seem to be a good thing, as most players often disappoint by failing to live up to expectations after a promising start to their careers, which in the end has a lifelong impact on a player's career. Such was the case with England midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, who went from being a promising player to a free transfer.

Shelvey is a midfielder who started his career with Charlton where from the very beginning he showed great quality, which quickly caught the attention of the Reds, who in 2010 paid €2 million for his transfer, where he was expected to do great things. Such was the impression Shelvey generated that it was thought he could be Steven Gerrard's replacement.

Nothing could have been further from the truth, as Jonjo spent just one year at Anfield, going out on loan to Blackpool in 2011 before being sold in 2013 to Swansea City for €5.80 million, according to Transfermarkt. However, during his time at Anfield. Jonjo was not able to prove much, as during his time with Liverpool he only managed 69 appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists.

After failing at Anfield, Shelvey was able to find his feet with Newcastle, where he played a total of 202 games, scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists. However, 31-year-old Jonjo is now forgotten and playing in the Turkish Super League with Caykur Rizespor, where he has played 13 games for a total of 990 minutes, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

The big problem with Shelvey's last England team

In his last Premier League appearance, he was with Nottingham Forest, where he only played 8 games. However, Nottingham are in big trouble as Shelvey started his loan spell in Turkey, and his contract was terminated prematurely with the English club. So his pass now belongs to the Turkish team, due to Nottingham's problem of too many players on loan. So they are being investigated for breaking the law.
