Former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino has taken to social media to send what could be a cryptic message over his current situation with Saudi side Al-Ahli. The forward’s future has been put in doubt following his omission from the Saudi Pro League side's submitted squad.
His non-inclusion in the squad means that the player will not be eligible to play in Saudi Pro League games between now and the end of the season. He will however still be able to play in the Asian Champions League.
It has led to some speculation that he could potentially end his contract with the Saudi side. If that does happen, he would be free to complete a transfer to a new club, including sides in the Premier League.
Firmino was left out of the squad so that January transfer window signing Galeno could be included, with Saudi sides only allowed 10 overseas players in their squad. Speaking about the position, manager Matthias Jaissle said: "It was a difficult decision for the club and based on the rules. We appreciate him and he dealt with it professionally. He’s still one of our leaders."
Following the news last week, Firmino took to Instagram to post a bible verse on his stories in a cryptic message. The Brazilian has now seemingly repeated the message.
He’s posted a video previewing the AFC Champions League clash against Al-Gharafa which will be played at 6pm GMT. The highlights include a stunning bicycle kick that he scored in the competition at the star of the month.
Firmino has also included a bible verse that translates to: “10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
