Dominik Szoboszlai responds to Liverpool chants as Man City moment almost went wrong

Dominik Szobosszlai admits he didn't hear Liverpool supporters chanting about winning the league in the dying minutes of the 2-0 win over Manchester City, but the midfielder has warned his team-mates to keep going as the title race enters its final straight.

Szoboszlai scored and assisted for Mohamed Salah in a 2-0 victory that stretched Liverpool's lead to 11 points at the top of the Premier League table after second-placed Arsenal were beaten 1-0 at home to West Ham United on Saturday.

Liverpool are now firm favourites to lift the Premier League title but Szoboszlai - who was simply too tired to hear what fans were chanting - says they must turn their attentions quickly to a clash with Newcastle United at Anfield on Wednesday evening to avoid any slip-ups.

Arne Slot's side host Newcastle before Southampton travel to Anfield in their only Premier League match in March.

Asked about fan chants, he said: "I didn't hear it, I was so tired! We have to keep going and Newcastle is going to be a tough game and then 11 more games to go. It never ends so we have to keep calm and keep going and at the end hopefully, we will get there."

He added: "We played with two number 10s and they managed the game almost 90 per cent but at the end the result is for us and we are happy to take the three points home.

"We were defending 30 metres from our goal and we gave everything. It is part of the game. Sometimes you don't have the ball and we are happy to take the three points."

Liverpool's opener came after a clever corner kick routine that saw Alexis Mac Allister find the feet of Szoboszlai, before the Hungarian's cutback allowed Salah to score via a deflection.

But Szoboszlai admitted it wasn't his best assist - before Salah explained that the ball was not meant to go in the area it did despite him converting.

Szoboszlai joked: "It was not the best assist I gave to him! We practiced it yesterday and hopefully, we can do it more times. Finally, he could also find me - it does not happen every time!"
