This Wednesday, March 5, one of the most anticipated matches of the Champions League round of 16 will be played. Luis Díaz 's Liverpool will face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Parc des Princes, but the English team received some bad news beforehand.

Liverpool was, without a doubt, the best team in the league phase. Arne Slot's team qualified for the round of 16 as leaders of the table, winning 7 of their 8 games. This allowed them to comfortably qualify for the round of 16.

Unfortunately for the Reds, however, PSG's poor performance in the first stage led them to qualify via playoffs, which ended in a matchup between heavyweights in the round of 16. The new format played a bad trick on the English team, as they could have had an easier opponent.

The tie starts on Wednesday in Paris. The French capital is known to be a tough place, given that the home fans make themselves felt at the Parc des Princes. Added to this is very bad news for Liverpool , who will not have the support of their fans.

Liverpool fans will not travel to Paris

According to Le Parisien, Liverpool fans will not be present at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday. This is a precautionary measure following the violent events at the 2022 Champions League final at the Stade France.

In the run-up to the final against Real Madrid, Liverpool fans had a few incidents with the local police. This even forced UEFA to delay the start of the grand final, played on 28 May 2022 in Saint Denis, by about 30 minutes.

“ I was caught in the turnstiles and then in the attacks by gangs and police after the match. I had never seen anything like it. When the police refused us access to the stadium, we had the impression that they were herding them (the fans) in like animals being led to the slaughterhouse. It was horrendous ” was the testimony of one Liverpool fan.
