German manager Jürgen Klopp announced on Friday 26 January that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season after almost nine years in charge. Klopp, who arrived at Anfield in October 2015, returned Liverpool to European glory by winning the Champions League in 2019 and domestic success with a first league title in 30 years in 2020, as well as winning an FA Cup, League Cup, European Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Amid criticism of him, Salah's surprise decision and his renewal
"I'm running out of energy," Klopp said in an interview with club media in which he explained the reasons for his departure. "I don't have any problems, obviously. I knew I would have to announce it at some point, it's all good, but I know I can't do this job over and over again." Klopp explained that he told the Liverpool board of his departure in November when they began planning for next season and said to himself, "I don't know if I will be here next year."
"I can understand this is a shock for a lot of people, but I can explain it. I love everything about this club, this city and our fans. I love the team and my coaching staff. Everything, but for me to make this decision shows that I am convinced it is the one I have to make." Klopp's assistants Pepijn Lijnders, who will begin a solo coaching career, and Peter Krawietz, as well as elite development coach Vitor Matos, are leaving the club.

Although all signs point to Spaniard Xabi Alonso as the leading candidate to arrive at Anfield, according to The Athletic there are two other names FSG owners have in mind to sign. They are the Italian Roberto De Zerbi who is shining with Brighton and also Julian Nagelsmann who would be a direct recommendation from Klopp although for now he is with the German national team.
