Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara was one of the players Liverpool fans had been waiting for after several weeks out injured. Tuesday night's win over Ajax in the Champions League group stage matchday 2 was a great display of his quality and worth for German coach Jurgen Klopp's side as he became the driving force they needed so badly in previous games.

Although he had already played in the Champions League group stage opener against Napoli, he was finally able to appear as a starter at Anfield after being injured on 6 August in the game against Fullham, which ended in a 2-2 draw and began the frustration of the Reds fans. In that game he ended up with a muscle problem that kept him out for almost a month.

Jürgen Klopp wants this Real Madrid player

Jürgen Klopp decided to substitute him in the 89th minute in the victory over Ajax and received a standing ovation from the fans at Anfield, showing all the affection he has earned through great performances. He even put on a show in the warm-up with the Colombian Luis Diaz, dominating the ball for a long time without dropping it and impressing everyone present at Anfield.

But his skills are not only on the pitch but also off it. Thiago Alcántara was born in Spain but his father is Brazilian and has been playing for Liverpool since the summer of 2020. This combination has allowed him to learn to speak three languages, Spanish, Portuguese and now English, so he can answer questions from journalists in any of these languages.

What Thiago said?

'It's my team, not only the players but also the fans. My family are already ultra Liverpool fans.' This was the statement the 31-year-old midfielder gave after the match against Ajax at Anfield to a Brazilian journalist who has been working in England for some time.
