As expected, the draw to determine the UEFA Champions League round of 16 clashes left us with two duels that are sure to cause sparks: Liverpool vs Real Madrid and Bayern Munich vs Paris Saint-Germain. The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League has been made in Switzerland, where Real Madrid vs Liverpool, last season's finalists, and Bayern Munich vs PSG will face each other.

Ever since we learned the standings at the end of the group stages we knew we would have two interesting duels in the next phase of the tournament, as both Liverpool and PSG, two of the best teams, failed to top their section and finished in second place, so they would inevitably have to face one of the top teams.

And so it was, in the draw held at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, that Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar's team will face Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich next, while Liverpool and Real Madrid will relive last year's final, which was won by Los Merengues, so this match will have a certain flavour of revenge for the Reds.

Two groups have been drawn: one with the top eight from each group and the other with the eight runners-up. The seeded teams will play away in the first leg of the Round of 16 and at home in the second leg. The first legs will be played between 14 and 18 February and the return matches between 7 and 15 March.

Mané awaits Liverpool

While it was thought that Bayern Munich would be Liverpool's opponents in the last 16, Senegal's Sadio Mané will have to wait to play against his former team. If the Reds and Germans progress, there is a chance they could meet in the final in what would be a very special match for the African attacker.
