Since the start of the season Liverpool have suffered a lot with the issue of injuries and the poor footballing form of some elements, with both coming together in this UEFA Champions League match in the defensive sector, as the fact that Trent Alexander-Arnold is not playing against Rangers due to injury and that his place is taken by one of his teammates who has not seen much activity during the season and is lacking in footballing rhythm has hurt the English team in those first 45 minutes on their visit to Scotland.

The little activity that Joseph Dave Gomez has had not only this season but in recent years with Liverpool has been so scarce that this type of opportunity is difficult for him to take advantage of, because while it is true that Alexander Arnold has not been at his best in recent games, the England international has been able to provide greater offensive statistics and greater security in attack even when that task is the worst for the Briton.

It seems that Jurgen Klopp's bold moves in attack did not turn out badly even though Mohamed Salah was on the substitutes' bench for this game and Luis Diaz was absent due to injury. In the first half the offensive sector was better than the defensive one, a situation that put the German tactician in serious trouble as Joe Gomez was his main and first choice to cover the position left by TAA this couple of weeks.

The poor display by the English defender caused a series of comments on social media from Liverpool fans, with many arguing that Gomez has been one of the worst in the team for some time now, using as an example his interventions against Rangers' attackers, creating extra work for their defence and goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Trent Alexander Arnold's absence weighed heavily

It seems that Jurgen Klopp will have to continue to make some adjustments in that sector of the pitch while Arnold continues to recover from his injury, with the German tactician having to improvise and perhaps resort to the bench to solve his problem, having both Nathaniel Phillips and Andrew Robertson available, the latter being the most active and experienced with the Reds, although his profile is completely on the other side of which Joe and Arnold play.
