Karim Benzema's goal gave Carlo Ancelotti's side a 6-2 aggregate win over the English side at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Spanish team settled the series at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and, after a goal from Karim Benzema, won the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 to reach the last eight.

El Merengue are one of the teams who have qualified for the quarter-finals along with Napoli, Manchester City, Inter, Milan, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Benfica. Their opponents will be drawn on Friday 17 March. Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The only goal of the game was scored by Karim Benzema after 78 minutes.

After a VAR review, German referee Felix Zwayer did not award a handball to Liverpool defender Konstantinos Tsimikas. Karim Benzema received an assist from Vinicius Jr from the floor and scored into an empty net to make it 1-0 to Liverpool and leave the series 6-2 on aggregate.

Klopp knows where it went wrong

After the defeat and elimination from the Champions League, Jürgen Klopp said at a press conference: "After the international break, we have a proper week ahead of us -- City, Chelsea and Arsenal. That will probably define what we get out of the season. We prepared for a special performance tonight but it didn't happen.
