It looks like Liverpool FC are back to their best, at least in the UEFA Champions League, where they gave themselves a tough blow of authority in Glasgow, Scotland, when Jürgen Klopp's side thrashed Rangers FC 7-1, a game in which the Red's curiously recovered from the home side's early deficit to give a goalscoring masterclass orchestrated by Mohamed Salah.

Joining the Pharaoh in the English cause were Roberto Firmino twice, Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez, the latter making his first appearance in Uruguayan history at the world's premier club competition. The former Benfica man scored in the 66th minute to join Luis Suarez, Edison Cavani, Juan Schiaffino and Walter Pandiani as historic Uruguayan goalscorers in Europe.

The 23-year-old striker scored his seventh goal in the European Champions League, joining the top Celestes behind Juan Schiaffino's eight goals for AC Milan, Walter Pandiani's 12 goals for Deportivo La Coruna, Luis Suarez's 27 goals for Ajax, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, and Edinson Cavani's 27 goals for Napoli, PSG and Manchester United.

Still with a long career ahead of him, the Uruguayan youth product of Peñarol has scored seven important goals in Europe, the first and second against FC Barcelona in the 2021 Group Stage, the third coming in the same tournament against Bayern Munich. The fourth goal came against Ajax in the Round of 16, with Liverpool the victim in the quarter-finals for his fifth and sixth goals.

Nunez is already one of Uruguay's top scorers

Those goals against the Red's finally caught the eye of Jürgen Klopp, who went to great lengths to convince the board to sign him for 75 million euros last summer. With two games left in the 22/23 Group Stage, Darwin Núñez could continue to score goals in Europe and bring even more joy to the Reds fans.
