Even with the recent passage of time, the glorious night of 7 May 2019, which saw one of the greatest matches in UEFA Champions League history, remains etched in the memory of Liverpool fans. With Anfield being the epicentre, the Red's came from 3-0 down in the second leg of the semi-final, and in an epic game scored four goals to set them on their way to a sixth UCL title.

With stars, including star man Lionel Messi, the Red's were superior in every department. With a brace from Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum and Belgian Divock Origi, Anfield was filled with glory and left the Barcelona players divided on the pitch in mixed feelings. After the final whistle, some Blaugrana stars opted for tears and others for anger, still in disbelief, still not understanding what had happened.

One of the players who felt the defeat the most was the Catalan Gerard Piqué, who recently declared what he experienced on that night on Merseyside. "Anfield. I'm not the kind of player who comes into the dressing room throwing things on the floor to express my anger. But because of the first-leg advantage, I did just that," said the historic Barça player who this weekend announced his retirement as a professional.

Pique, who along with his team-mates were turned into statues that day after Divock Origi's stinging corner-kick scored the final goal, recalled that the semi-final game - which would ultimately give the Champions League title to the Reds - struck a chord with the squad, who were already beaten midway through the first half as the comeback was imminent.

Piqué left Anfield humiliated

The 35-year-old centre-back, who started out professionally in 2004 as a youth player at FC Barcelona, spent two loan spells with arch-rivals Manchester United, followed by a spell with Real Zaragoza and a return to the Nou Camp, announced his farewell to the pitch this weekend, acknowledging that Liverpool FC was one of the greatest rivals he has faced throughout his career and applauding Anfield and its people.
