Liverpool now know their opponents in the last 16 of the 2022-23 Champions League: Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid. The draw made on 7 November 2022 determined that Los Blancos will face the team they beat in last season's continental final with Vinicius Jr's goal in the Round of 16.
The tie will be a two-legged tie, as is tradition, but with the notable change that was introduced last year. From 2021-22, away goals will not have double value, a change that had been requested for some time. And Madrid will play at home, with the Santiago Bernabéu hosting the second leg of the tie in March 2023.

Benzema out, Real Madrid scandal over Liverpool Champions League clash
The history between Real Madrid and Liverpool is favourable to the Madrid team, with a total of nine matches played between the two, with five wins for Los Blancos, one draw and three defeats, having played two Champions League finals and one quarter-final in the last five seasons.
In that sense, if Liverpool manage to beat Real Madrid once again, they will be in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with the Round of 8 opponent having to be confirmed through a new draw. It is worth remembering that, for several years now, the quarter-final stage has been organised by a draw, so it is not predetermined.
This means that Liverpool will be able to play any of the other seven Round of 16 winners in the quarter-finals. For the Round of 8 it does not matter if they have shared a group, so they could even face RB Leipzig. Nor does it matter if they are from the same country, even if there are no longer any Spaniards in the competition.
