Former Liverpool captain revealed why he didn't stay in European football

The most recent interview given by Jordan Henderson to The Athletic is on everyone's lips, as the former Liverpool captain has touched on several topics that had been in doubt since his departure from Anfield, such as whether he left for money or if someone really asked him to stay and his real reasons for emigrating to Saudi Arabian football.

Among the things that Jordan Henderson mentioned, he assured that although many people may disagree with his decision to leave to play for Al-Ettifaq for a number of reasons, he is calm in the knowledge that he has given everything he could to the club of his love, our Liverpool. He even assured that he would love to have the opportunity to say goodbye to the fans as he deserves. "I gave them everything. And I would do it all again if I could go back. I think they know that, they appreciate that. I'd have no concerns if I had the opportunity or if they welcomed me back to say goodbye. Because that does hurt me a little bit, that I didn't get to say goodbye properly to the fans," he said.

No doubt his departure from the club caused great sadness among Liverpool fans who consider him a club legend, but many were left wondering why Henderson did not want to stay in European football, because although it is true that his role with Jürgen Klopp was probably going to diminish a lot this season, few could say that he did not have the level to stay in Europe, but Henderson himself revealed why he did not want to stay in European football.

The reason

Jordan Henderson, when questioned about not wanting to face Liverpool with another European club, mentioned what his reasons were for not choosing a club he would have eventually had to face the Reds with. "Liverpool is where my kids were born; I've achieved so much there. I love the club, I love the fans and the thought of playing against them would have been a different challenge in a different way. And it wasn't something that I felt was right for me," he said.
