The goalscoring streak that will have Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp dreaming

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp spoke about Luis Diaz's development since joining the club in January and his goalscoring potential, which he hopes will lead to a run of goals that will have everyone on Merseyside dreaming.

The Colombian striker came close to scoring on several occasions during the opening day draw with Fulham last weekend, including a shot against the woodwork with a fine curling effort.

Klopp explained that Diaz is becoming increasingly comfortable with the team's system and style of play thanks to a full pre-season, speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Crystal Palace game. "In November and December everybody was thinking when he would score the next goal, but he is a starter all the time, so this kind of thing," Klopp noted.

Evolution and adaptation

"You see the situations he's had, like the biggest chances are just unlucky, that's how it is. He's had these blocking moments a couple of times already, but he's in very good shape, he looks very good, and that's the most important thing for me, that he's in these situations. It's not like I tell him after the game, 'You should have scored here or there'. The guys know it the moment it happens. So it's a normal process," he said.

According to the German manager, Diaz is one of those players who can score 10 to 15 goals if he puts his mind to it, in a single season. "Definitely, that's his quality. But in the end, we have to see. But, of course, that's his potential, yes," he commented.

"He's definitely improved, of course, with the understanding of what we're doing, this kind of thing. But that leads also to a bit strange situations, because we want to be flexible on the wings, things like that, and that means he has to be a bit more inside. But then you realise that for him it's quite good if he stays out more and this kind of thing, so we get used to that," he added.
