Jürgen Klopp and his coaching staff are still looking for a new central defender to reinforce the team in this summer transfer window, after Liverpool finished last season as the worst defense of the top five in the Premier League, which ended up leaving us out of the next edition of the Champions League.
Since the end of last season, several names have emerged as possible candidates to reinforce the team in defense, because although Virgil van Dijk is still one of the best defenders in the world, the truth is that he does not have many years left playing at the highest level, so the Reds board is already looking for his possible replacement and the idea would be that the player could come to Anfield and learn from van Dijk himself.
In that sense, one of the players who was most linked with a possible transfer to Anfield was Micky van de Ven, the 22-year-old Dutch central defender who currently belongs to Wolfsburg. Precisely this was one of the details that brought him closer to Anfield, as our new sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke was part of the Wolfsburg board and knows the player perfectly well.
Micky van de Ven, currently valued at €30 million, is one of the most promising defenders in the Netherlands and is even seen by many as Virgil van Dijk's heir in the national team, so it was logical to assume that his arrival at Anfield was very likely, as Virgil himself could teach him everything he knows and thus prepare his compatriot to take over the role once he leaves. However, it seems that Klopp has not been too convinced by the idea.
According to German media, it is a fact that Micky van de Ven will not arrive at Anfield this summer, as although there was interest from Liverpool, they have reported that Jürgen Klopp believes it would be "too soon" for the player to arrive in the Premier League.
