In recent weeks, there had been speculation that Luis Diaz would join Barcelona. However, the English press denied the rumours, suggesting that the Colombian is an immovable figure at Liverpool and would honour his contract, which runs until mid-2027. Although the player's father had publicly acknowledged that the winger is a fan of the Catalan side, everything seems to indicate that Jürgen Klopp's side would not be interested in carrying out the exchange between Raphinha and the Guajiro idol.
"Liverpool have no plans to approve a swap deal that would see Luis Diaz join Barcelona and Raphinha head the other way (...) A well-placed source told Football Insider that Liverpool would not accept offers for the Colombian international," the English outlet said. In 2022, club president Joan Laporta communicated his interest in the player and even held multiple talks with the '7′'s agent, but the transfer was not followed up. In addition to the fact that the Anfield team was already advancing the recruitment, the economic factor prevented the transfer to the azulgrana.
"The truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment, he hasn't told me anything. It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and his dream would be to go there", were Luis Manuel Díaz's latest statements on the subject.
So, although it could be true that Díaz would accept a place at Barcelona, for the time being, he will continue to wear the Reds shirt. To date, he has made 14 appearances, scoring four goals in all competitions played by his team.
Liverpool Echo in the Barca board did not offer Frenkie de Jong, as Christian Martin told DSports, but instead tried to convince Liverpool with an attacking swap deal. "Liverpool have no plans to approve a swap deal that would see Luis Diaz join Barcelona and Raphinha head the other way, sources told Football Insider," reads the article published on Monday 20 November, just hours before Colombia's second game of the double-header against Paraguay.
