Trent Alexander-Arnold believes Liverpool can compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title this season. The Liverpool vice-captain spoke ahead of Saturday's intriguing game against the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium. "Last season was not good enough. We brought in new players, it was about adapting as quickly as possible and making sure we laid a good foundation at the start of the season," said the England international.
"We're in a really solid position, results-wise and form-wise, we're doing enough to stay as close to the top of the table as possible. So far we've performed in a way that is how you would expect someone who is a contender to win the league to perform and if we continue that, we should be in the contenders come May.
"If it wasn't, I'd be here saying 'I want to get back in the top four' because, honestly, there's nothing wrong with that for this team, a team that just finished outside the Champions League places. ." There's a rebuild going on, a lot of senior players have left, and it would be very normal to say, 'Get back in the top four and go on from there', but (competing for the title) is something that we Believe we can achieve," he continued.
During the match Liverpool suffered because they could never develop their game and after Erling Haaland's goal in the first half, for the second half Manchester City scored again with Rúben Días but there was a previous foul on goalkeeper Alisson that after being reviewed by the VAR was marked by referee Chris Kavanagh.
