Fabio Carvalho will get a chance to show his quality in the face of absentees

Fabio Carvalho will have the chance to prove his quality in the face of injuries and suspensions at the club, which have been mounting after the first two Premier League games, both of which ended in draws, the first against Fulham in London and the second last Monday against Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Liverpool will learn their 2022-23 group stage opponents next Thursday during the draw in Istanbul, with the first round of matches scheduled for September 6-7. Carvalho is looking forward to a new experience in Europe's top club competition after joining Merseyside from Fulham in the summer.

The Portugal Under-21 international has been a substitute in all three of Liverpool's competitive games so far this season and is determined to make the most of every opportunity afforded to him by Jurgen Klopp. Carvalho moved to Merseyside after progressing through the youth ranks at Fulham, where he helped Marco Silva's side win promotion to the Premier League in his final season, and was reunited with his friend and former team-mate Harvey Elliott.

Carvalho's words

"Along with the Premier League, it's the best competition you can play in. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to it, because I think that's everyone's dream growing up, to play in the Champions League. I've heard that Champions League nights here at Anfield are very special, so I'm looking forward to that," the 19-year-old told the official matchday programme.

He continued: "There's going to be a lot of games and it's going to be a bit of a lull with the World Cup, so we'll see what happens. I know I have to be ready to play when I'm needed and also to perform at the highest level. Everyone has to be ready to perform at their best. To get what we want, we have to be able to do it, so everyone has to be ready and prepared.
