The failure of last season, in which Liverpool missed out on the next edition of the Champions League, prompted Jürgen Klopp to make it a priority to rejuvenate the squad in search of a generational change that could bring the Reds back to the top of the Premier League.
In that sense, the club has said goodbye to great figures and even legends who have been at Anfield during the last golden era of the team in which every possible trophy was conquered. Such is the case of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and James Milner, who have left the club to allow younger players to come in and continue to contribute to the club remaining in the historic place it belongs.
However, Klopp is not satisfied with that and is now focused on finding the ideal replacement for Virgil van Dijk, because although the Dutch defender is still one of the best in the world, he is no longer the young player he used to be and that is why the German tactician is already looking for his heir.
The name that has been the most talked about for some weeks now is that of Micky van de Ven, a 22-year-old Dutch central defender who currently plays for Wolfsburg. van de Ven has been strongly linked to Liverpool, especially since the arrival of sporting director Jorg Schmadtke, who knows the player perfectly well and could be a key factor in bringing him to Anfield this summer.
According to various sources, Wolfsburg would be willing to sell Micky van de Ven this summer, as they know the player would be happy with a move and is also aware of Liverpool's interest. However, the Wolfsburg board has stated that they will not sell their player for less than 30 million euros, an amount much higher than what the Reds had initially planned to offer.
