As has been the case in other games, the refereeing went heavily against Liverpool during Saturday's match against Tottenham in which they had two players sent off with red cards for Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, leaving the Reds with no chance of competing and challenging for victory.
The referee for this match was Simon Hopper and just 20 minutes into the match, he made his first controversial decision when he sent off Curtis Jones for a play in which he had shown him a yellow card in the first instance. But after reviewing the VAR he decided to show him the red card and leave Jurgen Klopp's team with one player less.
After that, a goal scored by the Colombian Luis Diaz was disallowed for an alleged offside position. After this, images were leaked on social networks showing that there was no offside on the part of the Colombian and the goal should have counted. Then Cody Gakpo's equaliser was scored, but he went off injured.
In the second half there was a further decision by Hopper to send off Diogo Jota who had only been on the pitch for a few minutes after receiving a second yellow card. This provoked the fury of legend Jamie Carragher, who also posted a message of fury on social media.
