After Liverpool's toughest week (in terms of results) , Mohamed Salah , singled out for both his poor performance in the Champions League round of 16 tie against PSG and the Carabao Cup final, the English League Cup, against Newcastle , is at a crossroads.

From being the main candidate for the Ballon d'Or , breaking record after record in the Premier League (he already has 27 goals and 17 assists in the English championship, 32 and 22 respectively in all competitions), with Liverpool opting for four titles (Champions, Premier, FA Cup and Carabao Cup), Salah has one left, which is none other than the Premier. With which Liverpool , who have 12 points more than the second, Arsenal , would match Manchester United 's record as the team with the most English league titles won.

But Salah, precisely because of his status as Liverpool's main star , and because of how weak he was in both the first and second legs against PSG (which won on penalties, 1-0, each winning at the Parc des Princes and Anfield), has received a lot of criticism.

On Sunday, for the first time as a Liverpool player in a 90-minute match, Salah didn't have a single shot on target. Aside from that, because his performance in the Premier League has been stellar, his future is up in the air for contractual reasons. But for many, he's increasingly out of reach for a new contract.

On the one hand, in the hours following the final, many pundits have pointed out that Salah felt very alone in the final, that the other attackers, Diogo Jota, Luis Díaz, and then Darwin Núñez, didn't perform as well. Jamie Carragher, the iconic former Liverpool defender and current Sky Sports commentator, said on Sunday: "I almost feel a bit sorry for Mohamed Salah . He doesn't get any help from the other attackers. It's not like it was with Jürgen Klopp , where Mané or Firmino could bail him out."

On the other hand, in Liverpool 's bad moment , others brought out a worrying and almost unbelievable fact about Salah : in all the finals that the Egyptian star has played, with Liverpool and with Egypt , a total of eleven, he has only scored two goals and both of them were penalties: with the 'reds' in the 2018-19 Champions League final against Tottenham (0-2) and in the 2022 Community Shield (3-1 victory against Manchester City ).
