Gravenberch on the upcoming match against Brentford: "We know it will be difficult"
The next match for the Premier League leaders, under the guidance of Arne Slot, will be against Brentford on Saturday at 15:00 GMT at the Gtech Community Stadium. Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch shared his expectations for the match, saying: "It will be a difficult game, of course."
Gravenberch recalled that last season the fixture was also tough and stressed the importance of improving the start of the match. "We also know from last season that it wasn’t easy, and we have to give it our all. We need to start better than we did in the Forest game, and then I believe we have a good chance to win the match," he commented.
Regarding the team's slow starts, Gravenberch explained that the key lies in the intensity they bring to the pitch: "It’s just the intensity we give, and I think also when we look back, it’s just the intensity in the pressing and the deep runs, etc. It’s just that, and we have to give that from the start, and then it will change, for sure."
Reflection on the draw against Nottingham Forest
The midfielder reflected on the draw against Nottingham Forest, where Slot's team dominated the second half but failed to convert their opportunities. "I don’t think we started very well, we gave them a chance and they scored straight away, so you’re 1-0 down," Gravenberch recalled. However, he highlighted the team’s response in the second half: "We knew before going in that it was going to be a very difficult game, and when you’re 1-0 down, it’s tough, but I think in the second half we gave it our all and created a lot of chances, but we didn’t finish them. It was a bit disappointing, but I think we played a very good second half."
Preparing for Brentford
Gravenberch is confident that the team can carry the positive energy from the second half of the Forest match into the game against Brentford, adding: "I think 100 percent [we can carry that momentum into Saturday] because we gave it our all in the second half. We created a lot of chances, didn’t finish them, but we created them, and we have Brentford this weekend, so we have to show it again, but I believe from the start."
A solid midfield and the importance of fitness
Gravenberch has established himself as a key player in Liverpool's midfield, starting every Premier League and Champions League match so far this season. When asked about how he maintains his fitness during a physically demanding season, the 22-year-old commented: "I just want to give it my all when I’m on the pitch. I want to show myself every day and also take good care of my body, in terms of recovery, I do everything, so I’m very happy with the minutes I have now and that I can show myself to everyone."
The midfielder also emphasised the importance of staying fit for the challenges at the end of the season: "You want to give it your all, and in the end, titles are decided at the end of the season, so you have to be fit and give it your all."
