Premier League confirms major change to be made to Liverpool vs Aston Villa

Liverpool's upcoming game against Aston Villa will be a landmark affair as the Premier League has confirmed it will debut Nike's latest ball . The Reds' visit to Villa Park on Wednesday presents a chance for Arne Slot's men to extend their lead over Arsenal in the title race to 10 points.

Additionally, fans and players alike will be able to experience the new Nike Flight Ball in competitive play for the first time.

The ball, which will be used in matches until the end of the 2024/25 season, pays homage to the classic Nike Total 90s ball and commemorates Nike’s 25th anniversary as the official match ball supplier of the Premier League.

The league's website details the advanced technology incorporated into the ball. "Manufactured using Aerowsculpt technology with recessed grooves in the shell, this allows air to travel seamlessly around the ball, providing a more accurate flight. It is constructed with a shorter seam length to allow for a softer touch."

They also noted: "The Nike Flight Premier League ball will make its debut this season on Wednesday 19 February when Aston Villa host Liverpool."

Nike's latest deal will also be its last, with Puma set to become the Premier League's official ball supplier from the 2025/26 season. The league won't be the only one to ditch Nike this summer, with Liverpool set to switch from the American company to Adidas as their kit supplier next season.

Liverpool beat Wolves 2-1 on Sunday to restore their seven-point lead over Arsenal, who had taken three points just 24 hours earlier. With the Gunners not playing in midweek, Liverpool will have the chance to pile on the pressure ahead of the weekend's fixtures.

Villa, meanwhile, are currently ninth in the table and are looking to climb the table in their quest to play in the Champions League next season. They are currently five points behind Bournemouth, who are in fifth place.
