The start of the new year should bring great things for the Reds, not least of which appears to be maintaining the excellent form that has characterised this season, despite the fact that the team continues to have a number of injury absentees. However, there is now a much bigger problem at Anfield, as no contract extension has yet been signed for Mohamed Salah.

The Anfield Pharaoh seems to be in the best moment of his footballing life, and while Salah has been the most consistent player for the Reds in recent years, Salah is now on the list of legends, on a par with Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, among the most recent, and Salah in addition to giving titles to the Reds, Salah has kept Liverpool at the top and is one of the top scorers in Liverpool's history.

At the halfway point of the season, Salah has 18 goals and 9 assists in 27 games, which are undoubtedly incredible numbers. Despite this there is still no progress on a contract renewal for Salah, who has strong overtures from Arabia to leave Liverpool this summer, with Salah's contract expiring this summer on Merseyside.

This keeps Anfield in a state of uncertainty, as the team's best player is an unknown quantity as to whether he will continue in the second half of the season on Merseyside, where the team has remained a strong contender to win more than one title this season. Should he decide to sign an extension, Salah will become one of the greatest Anfield legends of all time.

Following Jordan Henderson's departure from Arabia, the former Reds captain set the record straight on his situation with Arabia and on dissuading Salah from moving to Saudi Arabia: "No, definitely not. Everyone is different. The big players are there loving every second. "Things change quickly. I wouldn't bad-mouth the clubs or the league or anything like that." So the bad or good experience of one player doesn't have to intervene in the decision of others.
