A new scandal surrounds Liverpool's matches and on Thursday there was a controversial decision by the VAR in the matchday 4 Europa League group stage game where the Reds visited Toulouse of France and scored a last minute equaliser that was disallowed.

In what was the last play of the game, Jarrel Quansah scored the goal to make the score 3-3 but Bulgarian referee Georgi Kabakov and the VAR decided to disallow it after reviewing the replay on the grounds of an alleged handball by Argentine Alexis Mac Allister on a previous play, which should not have been penalised as there is footage showing that there was no hand contact.

The decision adds to a string of arbitary failings against Liverpool both in the Premier League and now in the UEFA tournament. This is Liverpool's first defeat of the tournament, although it keeps them top of the group, but delays their qualification for the next round, which they must complete when they next face LASK Linz of Austria at Anfield in the coming weeks.

What UEFA says

The ridiculous thing is that UEFA itself stipulates in its own rules that the handball should not have been flagged because "No handball offence should be called on a player if the ball is previously deflected from his own body and, in particular, when the ball does not go towards goal."
