Senegalese continues to receive recognition for his work on and off the pitch

Sadio Mané has been a standout performer in Europe in recent years, but he is also a huge presence with the Senegal national team, where he is the all-time leading scorer. His work is not only on the field of play, but he also stands out for his multiple jobs for his people. That is why he is recognised as a hero by his compatriots, who paid him a tribute that went viral.

A fortnight ago, during the Ballon d'Or ceremony, the Bayer Munich striker won the Socrates Award, an award given to players who stood out for their social action in the last season.

The Senegalese has given several donations to his village (Kambali), where he has built a school and a hospital, among other charitable contributions. "I am happy to do what I can for my people, to make things better," he said at the time.

Now, by way of thanks, Senegal has decided to model a sculpture to pay tribute to him, but opinions were divided. The photo of the statue quickly went viral on social networks and several users commented on it, some in favour of the move and others mocking it for its peculiarity.

The artist wanted to imitate Sadio's celebration during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where Senegal were crowned champions, but it didn't have the desired impact with the final work. "It's about recognition. Not everyone will have the privilege of being recognised and honoured in this way," was one of the messages, while others chose to laugh.
