Andy Robertson suffered the problem during Scotland's Euro 2024 qualifying defeat to Spain in the international break. Robertson now faces an extended spell on the sidelines, starting in Saturday's Merseyside derby against Everton. "I think the decision will go towards surgery," Klopp admitted. "There was a small chance we could try without it, but it looks like surgery will be the best thing especially in the long term. He will be out for a while."
Robertson, a 29-year-old left-back, started the first eight games of the season. He should be replaced by Greek Kostas Tsimikas. Liverpool are fourth, three points behind leaders Tottenham ahead of the 243rd Merseyside derby against Everton, who are 16th in the Premier League and have won just one of their last 25 Championship games.
For the match against Everton at Anfield this Saturday as part of the Merseyside Derby, German manager Jurgen Klopp decided to send on Greek Kostas Tsimikas to replace Robertson. But the most striking feature was the appearance of youngster Calum Scanlon, who is little known to the fans.
Calum Scanlon, 18, named among the subs for Liverpool today. Talented left-back, who joined from
Birmingham City in 2021, has a real chance of making a senior debut in the coming months with Robertson missing.
