Club football in Europe has been halted for more than a month because of the World Cup, but the big teams are planning international tours during the break to prepare for the second half of the season. That is the case for Liverpool, who have already designed their programme for players not taking part in the World Cup in Qatar.

The Reds will have rest days and a training camp in Dubai in December, which they will complete with friendly matches against Olympique Lyon and AC Milan at the Al-Maktoum stadium. The English team will return to official competition on 22/12, when they face Manchester City in the round of 16 of the Carabao Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival at Liverpool scuppers a Klopp plan

Four players Liverpool would give to Manchester United to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo

To give details of the 12-day trip to the United Arab Emirates, Pepijn Lijnders spoke to the club's media about the importance of these training days and the plan drawn up with the players who will not play in the World Cup and those recovering from injuries, such as Luis Diaz.

Jürgen Klopp's assistant coach confirmed that the idea is for the Colombian to travel with the rest of the available squad to continue his recovery. He also acknowledged that they want to see him back on the pitch. "Luis definitely, if everything goes according to plan. We can't wait to see him back, he's that player who smiles when he has the ball at his feet," said Lijnders. The winger could get minutes in either of the two friendlies to help him get some run in for the restart of the season.

Luis Diaz to return for friendly in Dubai

"The conditions for training and recovery in Dubai are very, very good. A change of scenery is always a welcome factor when recovering from a long-term injury," added Klopp's assistant on Diaz and Diogo Jota's current situation. Liverpool face Lyon on Sunday 11 December and five days later, on the 16th of the same month, they take on Milan. Both matches are part of the Dubai Super Cup.
