We are entering the last week of the 2023 summer transfer window and our Liverpool is still looking for reinforcements for the 2023-2024 season, as Jürgen Klopp does not believe that the team is complete, so he would be looking for one or two more signings, with the priority to bring to Anfield a midfielder and a defender.
In that sense, one of the few names that have emerged as candidates to reinforce the team's defense is the Ecuadorian Piero Hincapie, who at 21 years of age, has aroused the interest of Liverpool according to various reports. Currently, Hincapie belongs to Bayer Leverkusen, a team with which he has a contract until 2027 and according to the Transfermarkt portal, is valued at 35 million euros.
However, it seems that Bayer Leverkusen plans to ask for at least double the amount of money to let the Ecuadorian leave this summer, because although he is in the final stages of his recovery due to an injury, they consider that he is very important for them and also has great potential, so they would not be willing to accept less than 70 million for him, according to the German media Bild Sport.
It is very rare that a team is interested in a player who is injured, however it seems that Liverpool's interest in Piero Hincapie is real, as it is also known that the Ecuadorian defender is in the final stage of his recovery so it is believed that it is not too serious. In addition, the quality that the player has shown in his time in European football and in his national team could make the risk worthwhile.
