For Liverpool and manager Jürgen Klopp, the summer transfer window was not an easy one. They had to make up for the sale of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich for 33 million euros. It also had to plug the injury losses that have plagued the team in recent weeks, which is why Brazilian Arthur Melo arrived just before the deadline.

During the summer they were able to sign 23-year-old Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez for €75 million. From Liga NOS side Benfica, the South American arrived with the tag of being the team's new goalscorer and forming an important attacking partnership with Egyptian Mohamed Salah and Colombian Luis Diaz.

Ahead of Champions League kick-off, there's bad news at Liverpool

The player Liverpool fans missed the most is back in training

However, Klopp needed a midfielder to cover for the constant injuries to 31-year-old Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who is important to the team, but spends a lot of time unavailable. But no matter how hard he looked, he couldn't find a player who would suit his needs and who would agree to join him.

One of the players Liverpool's manager thought of was German Konrad Laimer. The 25-year-old Austrian is one of RB Leipzig's best players in the Bundesliga and was a standout performer in last season's Champions League and is valued at around €30m.

Konrad Laimer made a mistake

But in the end, Laimer did not agree to the deal as he felt Liverpool were not sufficiently interested in him. This could turn out to be a mistake for the player because if he had been signed he would now occupy an important place in the midfield, replacing captain Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.
