Scout reveals information on a Reds decision

Former Molde scouting boss John Vik has revealed that Liverpool could have once snapped up Norwegian international Erling Haaland before the striker joined Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, which not only catapulted him to Manchester City but also helped him grow as a penalty-box killer, scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances over three years.

For some months now the Norwegian striker has been doing spectacularly well, to the point of being recognised as one of the most prolific strikers in world football, even more so after his arrival in the Premier League with Manchester City where in just six league games and two Champions League games he has been able to demonstrate his power in the box scoring on 13 occasions, averaging 1.5 goals per game so far.

A new headache for Jürgen Klopp to deal with

But going back to a time when he was not yet so lethal in the box, the former Molde scout mentioned in an interview with The Athletic, that both Manchester United and Liverpool had in their hands the possibility of taking him to their ranks, but both teams only saw him as a target because of his height, making less those details that by polishing them in Germany have been worth to be today the best striker in the English competition.

Haaland was always in the eye of the clubs in England, each and every one of them coming to the conclusion that this tall and robust 9 could only serve as a target, being for John Vik a total lack of respect for the Norwegian striker who was already showing signs of being a player with qualities somewhat different from those expected by both United and Liverpool, They now surely regret not having taken him and put him on track to be their top striker, a position that both the Reds Devils and Anfield now suffer from.

Liverpool rejected Haaland?

Haaland began his career playing for Brune F.K in his home country back in 2016, moving on quickly in 2017 to Molde F. K, a club that made him stand out to such a degree that he emigrated to Austria for the following year with Red Bull Salzburg, an institution where he did not have the best but a good end to the cycle that led him to Germany for three seasons with Dortmund, increasing his statistics exponentially to the point of maintaining almost that average goal scored per game since then, even improving his stats now at City in just 13 games.
