Mohamed Salah has said outgoing team-mate Roberto Firmino will be remembered as one of the "best players to ever play for Liverpool". Firmino's departure from Anfield after eight seasons at the club was announced in March. The 31-year-old was coming to the end of his contract and could no longer hold down a regular starting berth, despite still making substantial contributions from the bench.
The player himself later said: "The cycle here is finished and I understand that it's time to go". In total, Firmino scored 111 times for Liverpool in 362 appearances. He also won six trophies during the club's most successful period since the glory days of the 1980s, including the Champions League and a first domestic league title in 30 years. A big part of Liverpool's success in recent years was Firmino's on-field relationship with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané, a trio that at times was the best strike unit in the world.
Firmino in particular was often the glue that held things together and his colleagues revered him for his attitude and willingness to do the hard work that helped them get it done. "It's his ability to do everything in the game and also to sacrifice for the team," Salah explained. "He just plays for the team. He doesn't really care so much about scoring, he just wants to enjoy his game and play football and wants the team to win." "I think he's one of the ones who has been loved the most, because everybody loves him. He's very calm, always smiling. And like I said before, when you see someone sacrifice for the team, you see that everyone loves him here."
Roberto Firmino will continue his career at Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, several journalists have reported. While the Liverpool legend has all but sealed his future, Mohamed Salah continues to receive offers to move to Arabia as well, however, journalist Ekrem Konur has reported that he will turn down those offers and stay at Liverpool and surprise everyone.
